This is the first of a two part post about two singers who share several things in common. Both have brand new releases on Ryko, both list Ron Sexsmith as a friend and collaberator and both mine the same Americana ground. Kind of a gothic americana more in line with Mazzy Star and Joseph Arthur (who produced Tara Angell’s debut Come Down) then Lucinda Williams and Steve Earl.
First up is Ana Egge, whose 2005 release Out Past The Lights is due out next week (March 15). Ana is an Austinite of some renown winning best singer-songwriter several times at the Austin Music Awards. She has self released a couple of discs and opened for the likes of Ron Sexsmith (who sings harmony vocals on this record), Shawn Colvin and Richard Thompson. The first song on the new record is the spellbinding original “Apple Tree”, check that out and two others below. Preorder it here now.
