SXSW Preview – Songs:Illinois Style

So many bands, so little time. To me going to see indie rock, electronica, hip-hop, new wave, old wave, punk or even garage rock bands at SXSW is a little like Christmas in LA. You’ve got to still celebrate but it just doesn’t seem quite right.

Here then are my suggestions and a link to one song each from the bands or artists that epitomize the Austin spirit:

Hayes Carll Wish I Hadn’t Stayed So Long

Susan Cowsill Palm Of My Hand

Alecia Nugent My First Mistake

Scott H Biram Blood Sweat And Murder

Richmond Fontaine Post To Wire

Micah B. Hinson Beneath The Rose

Kevn Kinney Everything’s So Different Now

I’d like to say a little something about each band but time and space don’t allow it. Generally speaking these are bands I have heard good things about but didn’t have access to. Of course there are many other great bands heading to SXSW and many of them I have already written about (Rex Hobart, James McCmurtry, Mavis Staples, Robyn Hitchcok, Mary Gauthier and many others).

wish i could win the lottery and come across to sxsw the line up is a blast and a half. Have gone crazy and stayed up beyond the school dorm bell to get those little f***ckers onto my hard drive. Fantaastic that they are freely available. WIll enjoy the ride to work listening to all these sounds. thanx as always to alerting me to them.
