I got an email last night from Yer Bird Records about the band Sounds Like Fall. Like some of the emails I get they claimed to like my blog and thought the music of Sounds Like Fall would be a good fit for my site. I was suspicious and hoping this email and band wouldn’t be like some of the others I get. Mostly inappropriate, amateurish myspace bands with a little too much time and technology on their hands.
Well my fears were not justified, in fact what I heard was some of the best softly strummed americana music I’ve experienced in a long, long time. Sounds Like Fall have just enough of a Richard Buckner folk sound that they will also appeal to anyone who typically stays away from americana styled music. “Pretty Little House” is an uplifting song about death and the afterlife. While “St. Majella” is as good a breakup song as you’re gonna hear with a chorus of “I’m in love with a girl like you” and “wipe off your tears, it’s not you”. All three songs below are keepers and an example of a stunning debut for a band and a label (this is the first release for both). Support the band and this startup label by buying the their debut disc, The Wolf Is At The Door, here.
