Wussy mine the southern rock sound made semi-unpopular by The Reivers, Swimming Pool Q’s and the DB’s. I’d be curious to hear from the band if I got it even half right in this instance (perhaps I’ll be safer if I throw in Fetchin’ Bones and Hetch Hetchy…what do ya think?). The band features Chuck Cleaver from the Ass Pony’s and singer/guitarist Lisa Walker. But instead of being a vehicle for Chuck it sounds like this is a bonafide new band. Lisa’s vital singing and guitar are what will make or break this band.
I always liked the Ass Ponys especially for a band that was actually popular and got airplay on commercial radio. At the time there were a handful of bands in the same boat so in my mind I’ll always have the Ass Pony’s paired with Cracker, Cake and maybe even Counting Crows (ooh it hurt to type that).
Funeral Dress is their new record and the amazing blog I See Sound is where I stole this song. Check them out and buy Funeral Dress here at Shake It Records.

Sweet – I was just wondering what ever happened to Ass Ponys – I bough two of their records off the discount rack way back in, as you say, the days of Cracker & Counting Crows (1993 HFStival in DC).
P.S. – Found your blog looking for Blaze Foley stuff and saw your post. I just did pretty much the same post yesterday but at the end of the post you’ll find NEW mp3′s and link for the newly released Blaze studio album (apparently some guy found a rough copy off the mixing board on an unmarked cd in the glovebox of his car in indiana)
