Americana music via Scotland from the band Dropkick including the song "Gary Larson Cartoon"

(Editor’s note: I just dug up this post from the vaults. I had written it awhile ago and had planned a whole week of Scottish music but somewhere that went by the wayside. So here it is one nice little post about the Scottish band Dropkick.)

I was surprised at some of the quizzical looks and sarcastic gaffaws I received when starting my Swedish blog swedesplease. And now I’m prepepared for them again as I start a weeks worth of Scottish music posts, mostly americana leaning band but some indie thrown in for good measure. It all started with Ally Kerr who records for Neon Tetra and has a number of great songs from his debut circling the net. This led me to some other music from Scotland and now I’m on the hunt.

First up is a band that has played with Ally Kerr but that doesn’t have much in common musically. The Taylor brothers are the band Dropkick and their music has more in common with The Jayhawks and Sun Volt then with their countryman Ally Kerr. Both songs below have chorus that are just a little bit out of the ordinary and you’ve got to love a band that rhymes lucky with Kentucky and bucket with fuck it (“Never Been To Nashville”). You can buy their 3 records using paypal at their site here.
