Neal Casal’s "No Wish To Reminisce" (Ryan Adams’ guitarist among other things)

Is anyone paying attention? I certainly hope not as I’m about to repeat myself. I’ve probably said it before about a number of artists but I’ll say it again now. Neal Casal is my favorite singer-songwriter and one of the most underrated. The new record No Wish To Reminisce comes out on Fargo on May 8th throughout Europe and the UK.

It’s been produced by Michael Deming (Beachwood Sparks, Lily’s and The Pernice Brothers) and at least from the first song I’ve heard Michael has added some of the sounds he’s becoming known for like a swirling mix of guitars and organ as well as a sort of light 60′s era psychadelia. This is a pretty big departure from the usual sort of southwest-roots-music-meets-blue-eyed-soul of Neal Casal’s previous records.

But for an artist with a number of records out, a step in a new direction is quite possibly the right move. And this is a conscious change of pace according to the bio material in which Neal says he recorded this with more of an emphasis on the sound and put much more effort into getting every little piece of the recording exactly how he and the producer wanted it. You can buy this now through the Fargo store.
