Those links on the right are not solely for you the lovely reader but instead are also a pretty great resource for writing this blog. One of the consistently great music magazines is NYC’s The Deli. And that’s where I found out about Andrew Vladeck. Andrew is a NYC darling living on the lower east side and playing or opening for the likes of David Johanson, Alejandro Escoveda, Pernice Brothers and Andrew Bird. Besides singing and playing his own music he is also in the band The Honey Brothers and is also known around the city as a guy who can hotwire old instruments (banjo, ukeleles etc) and make them sing.
The song below is a new one (possibly a demo) that will appear on a forthcoming record. If you were to compare it to Todd Snider’s “TalkingSeattleGrungeBlues” or some of the works of Bob Dylan or even Bruce Springsteen you wouldn’t be far off and Andrew would probably agree (and shake your hand for being so insightful). “Talkin’ Personals” is the new song and it contains a long list of all the problems you can encounter dating online and in the personals. But the song is as modern and topical and alive as you can get, even referencing MySpace in a way that isn’t too coy or pretensious. You can get Andrew’s debut disc here.
