Kristy Kruger’s Ameritronica – "Songs From A Dead Man’s Couch"

Kristy Kruger (MySpace) sounds like a type of donut? Sorry that’s just stange and clearly releates more to my insatiable need for Krispy Kremes than anything donuty about her name. Her music has been called “Tom Waits produced by Daniel Lanois” and she calls it Ameritronica. I like both of those and I would add that it’s got a sound like my recent favorites Gregory Page, Heather Waters and even a bit like some of the work of gypsy rock bands like Devotchka. Kristy produced the record but it was engineered by Salim Nourallah and has many special guests from the Dallas music scene where Kristy is based.

The two songs below couldn’t be farther apart stylisticically but they show the range of this young singer so I include them both here. The new record is called, Songs From A Dead Man’s Couch and was self-released (making it probably one of the great self released records of the year). You can buy the new cd here.

Little Pollyanna
Dark Stranger

Oh yeah…what he said?!

I´ve greatly enjoyed this blog for awhile, so I thought I would let you know! After hearing your samples of Denison Witmer and Rosie Thomas (both a long time ago), I bought their albums. :)

    Keep up the good reviews.

I’ve only got Little Pollyanna right now (damn you dial-up) but Ms. Kruger is aaaamazing. She reminds me of an Americana-ized Mirah, or something.
