New music from the Texas Sapphires plus Songs:Illinois and others get Punk’d

The Texas Sapphires have been named Austin’s Best New Band. It’s appropriate that they were too since they combine all of the elements of that scene in their music. Their debut record, Valley So Steep, (Stag Records, Oct. 3) is a mix of bluegrass, country, and punk. I like that the band is fully tattoed yet wear their western hats with pride.

The new record was produced by Lloyd Maines and is available now from CDBaby.

I guess you’ve really made “it” (made “what” I don’t know) when people start mocking you. That is exactly what has happened to Songs:Illinois and other blogs on the mp3 blog mockucommentary site Gerard Vs. Bear. He’s attacked Jax, DIY Jeff, Good Hodgkins and CTASLY. So I’m in pretty good company but I’d like to see him go after Said The Gramophone, Stereogum, Fluxblog and Catbird Seat as well, they’re bigger and can take it I think. Here’s the link where he made fun of me. Honestly this is as funny as that stupid Clee Tickle video, I escpecially love the way he writes with an Eastern European accent.
