New Songs from Joseph Arthur (Lonesome Astronaut, Sept. 19) plus kindred spirit Andrew Tweedy (Translation Lost, Sept. 19)

I like Joseph Arthur. He’s one of the cool cats that frankly I thought would be overblogged. I received an email from some pr company (and I asume everyone else got it as well) that the new release would be out shortly. But a recent search of Hype shows nothing from the upcoming record.

Joseph Arthur’s new release, Nuclear Daydream, comes out Sept. 19 on his own label Lonely Astronaut. The best way to describe Joseph is as an artist. He works in both the visual arts (see above) and obviously the auditory ones as well. He’s got a jangly, at times electronically layered and slightly psychadelic, sound. When I’ve seen him live it’s been as a solo artist but the songs on his records are always more of a full band affair. Remarkebly (to me) it’s been 10 years since his debut and 6 since his breakthrough release Come To Where I’m From. Here’s two songs from the new record:

Black Lexus
Enough To Get Away

Andrew Tweedy’s (no relation!?) new re-released and expanded ep Glass Fingers (Translation Lost) is also out on Sept 19. This goes nicely with the Joseph Arthur and since I don’t honestly know much about this artist I’ve decided to add him to this post and leave the rest up to you.

Glass Fingers was and is one of the more creative solo accoustic works I had heard. I find this record to kind of sound like Hayden (I have yet to hear Joseph Arthur and I never got into Mark Kozelek, who TL compare it to). The layered guitar work is really well arranged and Tweedy’s vocals and personal, yet vague, lyrics go well together.

Amazing to consider that this comes from someone who plays guitar in the Relapse crust punk band, Buried Inside.
