I’m jumpin’ the gun on this release by Sarah White and the Pearls. It’s due out sometime this fall on Antenna Farm Records (home of The Donkeys, Still Flyin’) and these songs will be on it but maybe in a slightly different form. Why should you care? Well Sarah had two releases out on Jagjaguwar, she grew up in Virginia absorbing everything from mountain music to punk, and she’s been playing with a bunch of Songs:Illinois favorites including Casey Dienel, Tiger Saw, Annie Palmer and Alina Simone.
These songs have a great sense of space with the acoustic instrumentation leaving a lot of room for Sarah’s voice to shine through. The backing vocals on “We Have A Song” are ghostly and supurb. While on “Fighting Words” they are startingly brash and upfront in the mix. I’ll have a full update as soon as this is available for pre-order.
Bonus song from The Donkey’s s/t release on Antenna Farm (one of my favorite releases of the year btw).
