Sometimes I swear the search feature over at Hype/Elbo.ws must be broken. How is it possible that no one has written about Sam Lowry(MS)? I mean the guy has had three critically acclaimed records, is currently on tour with Lucero, Rocky Volato and William Elliott Whitmore and he has a bushy beard! Maybe he is a poor man’s Bonnie Prince Billy (or Smog or Moutain Goats) but I’d still take that any day over Jet, Cold War Kids or The Rapture. Plus he’s got members of Murder By Death, Early Day Minors and Duraluxe guesting all over this puppy.
The songs on Songs Of My Enemy (Higher Step, Sept. 26) are seemingly very autobiographical, Sam uses the term dark americana to describe them. He’s recently been through a divorce and a year of whiskey drinking that has led to songs like “The Rivival Is Over” and “Claim Ticket” that both deal with the underbelly of life; be it a seedy one night stand in “The Rivival..” or pawning your wedding ring and old guitar in “Claim Ticket”. Ultimately these are songs of a hard fought redemption and new life.
Buy Songs Of My Enemy here though his label Higher Step Records.

Here’s some links to music I either wrote about and love or music that I was beaten to the punch to and now relunctantly want to point you in the direction of:
An Aquarium Drunkard has a new song from the latest solo outing from Anders Parker.
Dodge at My Old Kentucky Blog has a review of the new stuff from Blitzen Trapper.
And while I hate to send you to the Walmart meets Hallibuton mp3 blog called Idolator, they do have some more songs off Niobe’s new record.
Raven Sings the Blues has another great song off the new Langhorne Slim ep.
