Alright, I guess we’ll call this Songs:Illinois’ late-nite-let’s-combat-indie-rock-boredom pt. 2 (here’s pt. 1). It seems everyone’s suddenly bored with indie rock and burned out on mp3 blogging. Funny too, because just now is when it starts to get interesting. All you regular SI fans please turn away and cover your ears.
Xiu Xiu is an odd band. For Xiu Xiu odd instruments, odd vocal inflections (think Antony meets moz) and odd subject matter usually add up to some pretty interesting sounds. However on this cut off their new ep Creepshow they team up with Grouper to form Xiu Xiu Vs. Grouper. This is more avante garde than even their regular avante garde stuff.
