The Autumn Defense’s claim to fame is that the band features Jon Stirratt of Wilco. But the band sounds nothing like what you might expect from a Wilco alumn. This is blue eyed soul meets british invasion stuff. This is not tough music. This would lose in a knife fight with Mide Ure.
This sophomore release from The Autumn Defense comes out in January of 2007 and can now be pre-ordered at the Broadmoor Records website here. By and large this record is a mix of folk pop and orchestrated rock but I wonder if the band would agree that at times this record seems to vear off into bossa nova territory. This is noticeable in the first song “Canyon Arrow” as well as the song below “City Bells”.
I had to be pessimistic, but who sings about city bells in this day in age? Oh, they’re ringing; thanks for letting me know. I feel like people want feeling in their music, not pronouncements of over-heard wonders…
Are there any songs on the album that are more akin to, well, more than one listen?
The upcoming album will actually be the band’s junior release. They’ve had two previous records, The Green Hour and Circles. Thanks for posting the track!
