The online Austin music-centric blog, Austin Sounds, has just put together it’s first sampler. They’ve purposefully stayed away from both the bigger indie bands and the breaking indie bands. With 1500 groups currently calling Austin home they still had plenty to choose from. For Songs:Illinois readers I thought that Leatherbag, whose new record just came out on SuperPopRecords, had all the elements that my readers might like. If only I knew what those were.
Anyway on “Sister” lead singer Randy Reynolds channels Bob Dylan’s nasally drawl but also nails his poetic, post-apocolyptic imagary.
I enjoy Leatherbag (and this song) quite a bit. Seth Gibbs (the drummer I think) has another Austin-area music project called Brother Machine as well. I REALLY enjoy all of his music, past and present. Superpop records also has Hope Irish, who is not only a rising talent, but a hell of a nice woman.
Thanks alot for this post and this song….really brightened my day
