East Of The Sun, by the experimental pop supergroup Tuatara, is out in June of `07 on the weird little indie label Fast Horse Recordings. Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey are two of the featured players but the band also includes Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees fame. The band, with it’s constant infusion of new talent, reminds me a bit of Michael Stipe’s supergroup The Golden Palominos (I know it was really Anton Fier’s group but it was always more about the singers). The new incarnation of Tuatara features guest vocals by Mark Eitzel, Dean Wareham, Victoria Williams, Mark Olson, and John Wesley Harding.
On “Orpheus Must Die” the early mix/demo/low-bit rate recording (mono, 80kbps) doesn’t sound great, but Mark Eitzel’s vocals are supurb and the chorus in the barckgound adds a nice flare.
Orpheus Must Die (w/Mark Eitzel)
Doesn’t really sound like Mark to me, so it might be one of the other singers. I think his track is called “A Spark In The Wind”.
you’re right I just realized it’s John Wesley Harding
