Roy Davis And The Dregs (riyl Richard Buckner, Ryan Adams)(plus a hinah session with Shelley Short live in Paris)

Roy Davis and the Dregs record Deadweight is not on any of the release lists that bloggers comb for new music to write about. And that’s a shame since this new record highlights one of the best new voices on the roots rock scene.

The title song puts much of the emphasis on Davis’ deep, rich, but wavering, vocals. They’re packed with emotion and the moribound lyrical content lend them even more severity. This sophomore effort is a keeper; add it to your collection by clicking here.

Hinah is a great French label that acts more like a community or artist co-op than a real label. If you’re an artist traveling to Paris, they’ll invite you into their home, fill you with soup, cheese and wine and record a show right there in the living room.

Shelley Short was the latest to receive the hinah treatment and her soft, gentle songs are perfect for this environment. I wrote about Shelley’s new record Water For the Day on Hush here. This is a song from the new record recorded live. Check out the entire session here.
