It's not a bad idea in and of itself ~ especially since John Carter Cash is involved. The snippets heard here ARE, however, poorly done; bad enough to disappoint both Cash fans and hip hop fans. I imagine if they put the tracks in the right hands, though (folks who understand both roots music and studio trickery), it could've had a better outcome. Think RL Burnside, A3, Jon Spencer, JJ Grey , Jim White … all have been better able to bridge the gap. This makes more sense to me than that it's just plain wrong because it's messin' with Cash.
… and more recently Tony Joe White.
I think you're right in that they hired all the wrong people/mixers/dj's and producers but even in a perfect world I think the idea is wrong. Some things are sacrosanct.
It's an especially bad idea when the widget starts playing automatically in my RSS feed reader.

I hate it when that happens is the autostart my problem or is it just how you have things set up with your feed reader, I've never heard of it auto starting before and my rss reader doesn't do that so….
Not a bad idea in theory, but certainly very poorly executed and boring to the extreme. They should pay more attention to what Giles Martin has done with the Beatles Love release.
