When I first heard Willie Nelson, he was at the height of his popularity, and his songs were played to death. I also suffered from a fairly severe case of country-phobia at the time, and I lumped him in with the worst abuses of Nashville at the time. Completely unfair, as I know now.

But Asleep at the Wheel were not country, in my mind at the time. I know, I know, that makes no sense. And nowadays, I agree. But the result was that I loved Asleep at the Wheel long before I came to appreciate Willie Nelson. Just one more thing I did backwards in my life.

For more of the current state of my musical taste, come visit me at Oliver di Place, (oliverdiplace.blogspot.com). And let me know what you think.

I'd never heard of Asleep At The Wheel, but they're great! Really fun and laid back. And I agree, Willie sounds fantastic in this track. Thanks for sharing it.

If you really like this version of Willie, you should pick up a record he made a couple of years ago, You Don't Know Me: The Songs of Cindy Walker.
