Primal rock from Chicago’s The Shams and their new record “Cold City”

I’m in a bit of a Chicago mood today. Last night I re-watched High Fidelity. The city of Chicago has rarely looked better on film. And I loved all the Chicagocentric stuff you could catch in the background (Schubas posters, local record label stickers, and the revolving Chicago t-shirts Cusack was sporting). So today’s band is a no brainer. They are from Chicago and play straight up rock n roll although with banjo fairly prominent in the mix. They are The Shams and their new record Cold City was just released. The record’s title track “Cold City” is an ode to the city of Chicago (the first on the record but not the last). While the song I’ve linked to “I’m Not Sorry” is a dirgy ditty about the day after the night before and not being apologetic for sticking up for yourself (or your girl).

You can see The Shams each Monday in July at Schubas or you can buy the new record here.
